Concerned and supported by Mrs. Mei Ng , Hong Kong, member of the United Nations Global 500 Laureate, the “Sunflower Action” has expanded 18 villages in 8 counties in Shaanxi Province, help 645 households develop yard recycle economic and have achieved remarkable efficiency after 2005, such as: increase income, improve the production and living environment etc. This Action is welcomed by the farmers and gain full recognition by governments of all levels In order to improve the farmers’ self-management and development capabilities, to achieve sustainable development of the project in various forms according to local conditions, to implement the nations’ objectives of building environmental friendly society, now we design the innovation and development plans of “Sunflower Action” in 2008.

1. “Sunflower Action” prospering industrial Project by sending pigs and biogas system

The basic link of the "Pigs - biogas - fruit (vegetable)" development model is breeding livestock and poultries. Because of the volatility of market price, the high cost of single-family farming, the financial difficulties of the farmers, it is normal “the biogas tank has been built but the farmers do not raise pigs”. In order to support the rural households to develop breeding industrial and promote the biogas project, in 2008 we plan to cooperate with the government to build several biogas demonstration villages with the way that the governments build the biogas tanks and the project support one pig if a household presented one (that is, the farmers buy a pig, the project send one. If one household buys two the projects will send two, but will not more than two pigs). With this method we’ll build 200 demonstration households and make the existing biogas tank play greater efficiency. At the market price of the piglet (RMB 300-400 Yuan) at present, we need to invest RMB120-160 thousand Yuan to donate at most 400 pigs for 200 households.

2. “Sunflower Action” Biogas Technique Key People Training

“Management is much more important than building”, the usage of existing gas facilities has been impacted for lacking technical guidance and follow-up management capability. In order to change this situation, this project plans to select 100 farmers who have basic knowledge on biogas management, warmhearted in public business and with publicity and mobilization capacity from the 26 villages in 8 project counties. The experts and technicians will train them in sessions so that the trainees can solve normal broke down of the biogas tank and stove, can publicity the new technique they learned, can train the project households and villagers on related knowledge. The Mothers Association will award 20 village level key peoples who have outstanding performance after re-visit. With these activities we can develop some stable technical service teams for the project villages to promote the sustainable development of biogas project. The Give2asia Organization will give financial support to this project

3. Sunflower Action New Biogas Technique Promotion Project

The technique of flushing the toilet with biogas liquid and use biogas water heaters is effective measures to maintain concentration of the biogas tank, to promote biogas slurry circulation and strengthen the scientific management and comprehensive utilization of the biogas tank. In order to realize this target, in 2008 we plan to build 200 biogas households with new technique (mainly expand the technique of flushing toilet with biogas liquid and biogas water heater) to further improve the benefits and level of the biogas demonstration households. The new biogas technique promotion project needs RMB 240,000 Yuan (per household 1200 Yuan). The Give2asia Organization plan to invest 80 households and there have 120 households wish to donate RMB 144 thousand Yuan

4. Sunflower Action “Green pen friend ----- loving care response” Activity

"Green pen friend------loving care response" is the cross-cultural exchanges between the children who gain financial aid and those of donators. With the method that 100 children of fund receiver families write letters to the donators, describe the truly change of their family after donations. Then the receivers can know how to show thanks and their families and communities can establish better connections with the donators. Furthermore it can promote the environmental protection awareness of the children, families, communities, partners, sponsors and the public and encourage more people to take practical actions to build a resource-saving and eco-friendly new rural village.
